This 1.5 mile project developed an existing 2-lane curb and gutter roadway into a 3 & 5 lane curb & gutter roadway.  Another 0.8 miles of side roads and ramps were also redesigned.  Eight different typical sections were utilized in the design.  This roadway carried an ADT of 15,750 in 2002 and projects to carry an ADT of 25,250 in the design year.

Seventy-one property owners were affected in some way by the project.  The existing drainage not affected by the typical section was analyzed for capacity.  Multiple new storm sewers were developed to handle the increased runoff.  Maintenance of traffic was a critical element during the design as traffic stoppage was not an option.  Runarounds were designed for larger structures and temporary signalization was used at intersections.

Lighting and signalization design were incorporated into the project as well.  The project initially began as a metric project, but was converted to English units after R.O.W. plans were developed.  A new Interchange onto I-40 was also added as part of this project.
